Beneath a crumbling apartment in Sunnydale, there were vaults. These vaults had gone undiscovered by vampires since the beginning of time. Vampires had never thought to investigate this territory, they thought the unsound structure of the building would be enough to keep humans away. That's why the vampires had never bothered to have it demolished after the takeover. They didn't see it as a threat. Little did they know, the vaults were an ancient family secret that Danny had known about for a long time. He had often used them to train Kelsey after adopting her. Today, he had called three slayers here to train them.
Rachel had raw talent. She was edgy and had a bit of a temper. When turned against evil hell beasts, that was a good thing. But she had to learn to control it, use her anger to add force to her movements. Not swing blindly in a rage. That had worked for her so far, but she had just barely escaped capture many times. Sadie was an all together different story. She was independent and headstrong. She required little training, but all Slayers should have some. Sadie was also resourceful. Kelsey... well, she needed to clean up her fighting a bit. She had issues delivering hits in the right places.
Danny bit into a nail as he approached the hidden trapdoor that lead to the vaults. Sunlight streamed through the many holes in the ceiling and walls of the apartment building. Danny had just returned from the surrounding woods, where he had been carving stakes and and crossbows. He had a whole artillery of weapons hidden beneath the earth, everything from machetes to Chinese fans with wooden spokes. He would be training the girls with the fans today. Still, it wasn't only the bag of newly made weapons that burdened him. Kelsey had almost been captured the previous night. He would have to step up his game.
The trapdoor gave way easily. Danny crept down into the darkness, closing it behind him. He dug in his pocket for a flashlight. A few seconds later, he clicked it on and a small circle of light fell on the wooden door a few paces ahead of him. He walked up and turned the knob. The door creaked open to reveal a ball room. Makeshift dummies meant to resemble vampires were set up at different places around the room. All along the walls hung weapons. The Chinese fans were at the far end of the right wall. All his life's work was in this room. And soon, his the proteges would be too.
He set his bag down on the floor and kicked it into a far corner, underneath a bench. Then, using his flashlight, he groped for the light switch. The room was washed in an eerie white light from the chandelier that was suspended from the high, domed ceiling. Danny took a deep breath. This place felt as much a home to him as his secret apartment. He walked over to the wall and slid down onto a bench. Danny glanced at his watch. It was 8:00 a.m. His Slayers should be arriving soon.
