Twill's mind went blank. She couldn't feel anything, see anything, think anything. She just knew that it felt good. Wonderful. She loved him, she knew it.

Daniel broke away for a moment. He had to tell her how he really felt. He looked straight into her beautiful brown eyes, cleared his throat, and spoke. "Twilla Parks, I've loved you since the day we met."

Twill's blood froze. She backed away from Danny, racking her brain for an excuse to get out of here. This had happened before, and it hadn't ended well. It had ended in the ruin of a perfectly fine relationship. Twill looked at an imaginary watch. "Oh my gosh, it's getting late! I have to get home. My mom's gonna kill me!" Before Danny had a chance to react, Twill grabbed her coat and dashed for the door. She didn't dare look back at his face as she left.

Danny didn't go after her. He simply stood there, wondering why ever girl he'd ever loved had run away from him. Some part of him knew that Twill would be back. If not tomorrow, sometime soon. And she would want to tell him something. What it was, he wasn't sure. But Danny was certain he had a chance with her. The only problem: What would Kelsey think?

Twill paused after closing the door behind her. She leaned against it, breathing heavily. Danny probably hated her now. Sighing, she walked down the hall toward the elevator. She was going home.

The next day, Danny sat at his laptop. He was staring uncomprehendingly at the screen where a manuscript sat, un- read. He kept glancing at the clock on the side of the screen, and the door. It was sort of like a game of tennis, back and forth. School let out at 3:30, only 3 and a half more hours.

Twill opened the door to Danny's apartment. She always did her homework there. She walked in, set her books on the table, and was about to take off her backpack when she noticed. Danny was sitting at the table, staring at his laptop screen. Before she had time to think, she blurted, "What are you doing here?"

Danny sensed Twill's discomfort and confusion. He wished there was some way he could reassure her that he wasn't going to pressure her into a relationship. Then he thought, Who are you kidding? The girl's only 15 for pete sakes. She's 7 years younger than you!. "I kind of, you know, live here," he answered slowly. "What are you doing here?"

Twill racked her brain for a decent excuse. Then she remembered, she was allowed to come in here. Kelsey had specifically told her that the apartment was their territory. Especially after what was going on with Twill's parent's at home.. she shuddered at the thought. "Kelsey said I could come over here to do some homework. We've got midterms in a couple of weeks, and I thought the apartment would be empty." She slid into a seat on the other side of the table, watching Danny closely.

Danny looked thoughtful. After a moment, he gave up and nodded. "I guess it's fine if you study here." He was trying to be polite, but was getting anxious. He wanted, scratch that, needed to know if Twilla had been thinking about last night just as much as he had. He had been secretly loving her for too long. She either felt the same way, or she didn't. He had to know. "I bet you'd do well on your midterms anyway," his face softened a bit. "You always were a smart kid."

Twilla glanced around the room, desperate for some sort of distraction. Anything that would keep her from looking at Danny's face. Every time she did, the memories all came flooding back. It wasn't right. Twilla was a human, and their relationship could put Kelsey in danger. Oh what are you, a mom? Twilla thought angrily at herself. Kelsey's perfectly capable of handling herself, and you know it! You're just looking for excuses so you don't have to face the truth: You love him, and he loves you.
She let her shoulders relax a bit, not wanting Danny to know that he was stirring up a tidal wave of emotions inside her. She forced herself to chuckle at his words. "Yeah, that's me. Twilla the super nerd." Twill cracked open her textbook, still avoiding Danny's eyes. She started working on an algebra problem, looking for the area of a small circle inside the corner of a square. It all had to do with the Pythagorean Theorum, which wasn't really Twill's strong point.
Twill sat in silence, nibbling on her eraser and racking her brain for the correct information. If one of the sides has a lenght of 20, and the other side has a length of 16... wait, what? Finally, she sat back in defeat. "Algebra sucks," she said a bit too loudly. She had momentarily forgotten Danny's presence. At least math was good for something.

Danny watched silently as Twilla busied herself with homework. He grew concerned when her eyebrows drew together in a frown. She was struggling with something. Then she flat out said that algebra sucked. Danny stood from his seat in front of his lap top and walked the length of the table to her. He propped his arm on the table and leaned over, trying to get a better glimpse at the textbook that sat in front of them. It was the Pythagorean Theorem, Danny remembered hating that when he was in school. But he remembered how to do it rather well. a2 + b2 = c2, simple math to him now.
He saw the work Twill had scratched onto the side of the paper. "You're looking for the length of c," he said, putting his pencil on the paper. "20 is the length of one side, so you square that, then you square 16 and add them together." He did the math on his paper. "There, now you have the diameter of the circle. Divide it by 2 for the radius.." he trailed off, deciding Twilla could figure it out from herself.

Twilla's mind had already wandered by the time Danny had started explaining the problem to her. Her thoughts had gone back to last night, and how good it felt to be wrapped up in his arms. The fact that he had stopped talking brought her back to reality. "Thanks," she muttered, turning around to face him. She opened her mouth to say more, but no words would come out. He was just staring at her. Not those big brown eyes again! Twill pleaded silently. She tried to spare a glance at her paper, anything to keep the feelings flooding back in, but found she couldn't. She just couldn't.

Danny gulped. Twilla was staring at him again. You could tell so much about her just by looking at her eyes. They weren't just brown and beautiful, they were full of understanding, love, and an edge most Slayers took years to develop. She may only be human, but she was one of the most extraordinary humans Danny had ever met. Now she was staring at him. Danny wanted to look away. His conscience kept telling him over and over again that this was wrong, that he should be focusing on training her to protect herself. Especially in these dark times.
But he couldn't. He couldn't look away from her eyes. He saw something else that he couldn't turn away. He couldn't break that bond, loose her trust. She was trusting him now, trusting him to show his true feelings. Wanting him to. He leaned in close and snaked an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close. [/blockquote]
